ISC West Recap: Maturity Metrics of Successful Security Organizations

As the premier annual event in the U.S. for the security industry, ISC West attracts manufacturers, systems integrators and end users in the physical, IT, IoT and converged security spaces. All of them are clamoring for up-to-date information and education covering trends, technology and strategy that make protecting our homes, schools, businesses and lives more efficient and comprehensive. ISC recorded highlights of several sessions at this year’s event that provide a glimpse into quality of the education available at ISC events.

In the wake of data breach after data breach and the attendant negative publicity for the companies involved, an organization’s cybersecurity posture is crucial. The more mature its approach and environment, the better. Johna Till Johnson, CEO of Chicago-area technology research firm and consultancy Nemertes Research, guided attendees of this session through an assessment of their company’s cybersecurity maturity. Session participants used benchmarks Johnson provided to rate themselves and their current success based on operational metrics, deployment of key “bellwether technologies” and organizational and operational best practices.

Together, ISC East (Nov. 20-21, 2019 in New York City) and ISC West (March 17-19, 2020) will have nearly 120 educational sessions covering topics like this and others including video surveillance, access control, biometrics, smart home, public security, drones and robotics.
